NRI Balwant Sanghera honoured with Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal

NRI Internet/NRIpress.com's columnist, retired School Psychologist and Community Activist Balwant Sanghera received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal from his Member of Parliament, Alice Wong, at an elaborate ceremony held in Richmond on Saturday, November10, 2012.

From Toronto, Sumir Malhotra told Gary Singh on the phone that Canadians are marking the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II by celebrating and honouring the hard work and achievements of those who have made a difference in their communities.

The Queen is Head of State of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth nations including Canada. Born in 1926, Elizabeth II became Queen at the age of 25, and 2012 marks 60 years of service.

All communities operate on volunteerism and it is important that we recognize the great contributions of individuals over the years. They don’t do it for the medal and they never think that they are going to get an award like this. About the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal

A new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country---- it also serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.

During the year of celebrations, 60,000 deserving Canadians were recognized ---out of a total group of 34 million Canadians
