NRI Balwant Sanghera honoured with Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal

Los Angeles, Nov. 20, 2012
Gary Singh

NRI Internet/NRIpress.com's columnist, retired School Psychologist and Community Activist Balwant Sanghera received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal from his Member of Parliament, Alice Wong, at an elaborate ceremony held in Richmond on Saturday, November10, 2012.

From Toronto, Sumir Malhotra told Gary Singh on the phone that Canadians are marking the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II by celebrating and honouring the hard work and achievements of those who have made a difference in their communities.

The Queen is Head of State of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth nations including Canada. Born in 1926, Elizabeth II became Queen at the age of 25, and 2012 marks 60 years of service.

All communities operate on volunteerism and it is important that we recognize the great contributions of individuals over the years. They don’t do it for the medal and they never think that they are going to get an award like this. They might be thrilled when they are nominated for Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.
